CARLA (Central African Plant, Red List Authority) Report
The Central African Plant Red List Authority convened in June 2017 at the Congo Basin Institute campus in Yaoundé to conduct Red List assessments prepared for the Global Ebony Assessment project by the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Central African Program.
Assessments were carried out by MBG’s Red List team in conjunction with experts from the National Herbarium of Cameroon, the National Herbarium of Gabon, the University of Yaoundé, the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, and the CBI. Risk of extinction was assessed for Central African species initially identified as being potentially threatened by habitat destruction and logging activities, which included orchids, Diospyros spp., and timber species exploited for their valuable hardwood.
